CPCT Typing Test Guide: English 30 WPM, Hindi 20 WPM – Rules & Practice
CPCT (Computer Proficiency Certification Test) is conducted by MAP-IT, Madhya Pradesh. A valid CPCT score is required for many MP government posts such as data-entry operator, assistant grade and similar roles. The test has a computer-proficiency MCQ part and two typing sections.
Typing standard (as per CPCT rule book/brochure): English 30 net WPM · Hindi 20 net WPM · 15 minutes each. Hindi can be typed with Inscript or Remington (Gail) layout in Mangal font. Check the current CPCT brochure for the latest rules.
How CPCT calculates net speed
CPCT counts the correctly typed words per minute. Wrong words are simply not counted. Example: 15 minutes, 480 correct words → 480 ÷ 15 = 32 net WPM (pass for English).
Which Hindi layout – Inscript or Remington Gail?
- Inscript: logical, government standard, built into every OS. Best if you are starting fresh. Practise free on our Hindi typing test – no software needed.
- Remington Gail: similar to the old Kruti Dev typewriter layout. Choose it only if you already know Kruti Dev typing.
Difference explained: Kruti Dev vs Mangal Unicode.
6-week CPCT plan
| Week | English | Hindi |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Lessons + 1-min tests, 25 WPM | Inscript lessons 1–3 |
| 3–4 | 5–10 min tests, 30 WPM | Easy tests, 12–15 WPM |
| 5–6 | 15-min mocks with target “CPCT English” | 15-min mocks with target “CPCT Hindi”, 20+ WPM |
Tips
- Backspace is allowed in CPCT – but every correction costs time, so build accuracy first.
- 15 minutes is long. Practise full-length tests at least three times a week.
- Don’t leave a word half-typed: an incorrect word simply doesn’t count, but skipped words also break your flow.
What is the CPCT passing speed?
30 net WPM in English and 20 net WPM in Hindi, as per the rule book. Verify with the latest CPCT brochure.
Can I type Hindi in CPCT with Inscript?
Yes, Inscript (Mangal) is one of the allowed options along with Remington Gail.
